Saludos de Colombia

We got to Colombia just in time for the Feria de Cali, Christmas with Felipe's family, and all the eating, drinking and dancing that is de riguer during this time of year. Happy (belated) New Year and holidays to everyone!

  1. Aw, I remember that orange drink! Also, it's so nice to see avocado used in (to me) its natural form (i.e. savoury, not icky-sweet). Man I would love to go back for a few weeks (at least). We had a friend from Bogotá come to stay with us recently and she was telling me of an arepa that comes with an egg in the middle! Have you heard of such a thing? Sounds amazing right?

  2. Haha, another sweet avocado hater! I actually like sweet avocado desserts but all of my Colombian friends in Brazil think they´re absolutely disgusting (not to mention the vitaminas de abacate!) Your friend is talking about an arepa de huevo, they are arepas that are deep-fried with a whole egg inside, they're common on the Atlantic coast...I've been given them for breakfast, which was a bit much for my American stomach at 8 am, but they are delicious. Hmm now I'm going to ask my suegra if she knows how to make them, if she does I'll definitely post it on here...
